Sir Brogas

My letter of thanks to the Brazil Times.

I wished to show my appreciation to the Brazil Times and their staff for the multiple articles of coverage. Our sport/game is in no way mainstream, these few articles have given us a good reputation amongst the community and netted us a few recruits as well. Here is the letter that I sent and that was posted in Monday's Brazil Times and the upcoming Kaleidoscope.

Dear Editor,

I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Brazil Times and its staff for giving the Brazil chapter of Dagorhir, also known as Dunland, a chance. Your paper and Ms. Herron have both been influential in giving our group new life and local exposure. Few people knew about our group for over two years and with the amount of exposure that was given to us, we have had a flood of interest throughout the region. After two articles and one page of photos, our group has more than doubled its membership and allowed us to focus on plans to expand into other areas such as Greencastle. We are still getting people throughout the area interested in Dagorhir, due to this exposure.

Even with 96 chapters across the United States and Puerto Rico, Canada, and even Japan, Dagorhir is not considered mainstream, but Ms. Herron allowed us to show her that we are not a passing phase. Most people drove by and didn't care to ask what we were doing each weekend in the park. Yet after the articles, we are still getting people who stop by due to seeing it with the Brazil Times. It was the first article that prompted over 50 people to stop by and just watch in their cars, many of whom told me they were glad to see something that could teach people things about early history in a way people would normally not think about.

As we entered the end of our second year and the beginning of our third, Dunland had only 15 members, now due to the chance you gave us, we have officially 40 members, most of which are regular participants. These members are now sharing in the experience that is Dagorhir and will help in shaping Dunland as we move forward in plans we had not thought possible for at least another year. These plans will allow us to increase awareness of Dagorhir into communities like Greencastle and other surrounding areas.

Living in Brazil for eight years, I found that there were far too few activities for people that didn't fit the “mold.” I wanted to give the community a chance to experience the same thing I did with Dagorhir. Through Dagorhir, I have become a person I never thought I could be and continue to learn more about myself as time goes on. With the support of the Brazil Times and Ms. Herron, I am given the opportunity to allow others the same chance as I have been given. Kids and adults are given the chance to learn honor, teamwork, leadership and other things, all while enjoying themselves and allowing their imagination to take them to another time.

Thank you Brazil Times, Ms. Herron and the entire staff for allowing me to share with my community the thing I enjoy the most. Your professionalism has allowed us to give the community a glimpse into what we strive to do, and allowed our group the chance it may never have been given. Thank you from myself and the entire membership of Dunland.

In service,

Chris Neese

President of the Regional Chapter of Dagorhir, aka Dunland

Speaking with my mother in law, who is employed at the Brazil Times, I was informed that the General Manager was very pleased to have helped our group. I was also informed that the Brazil Times may in the future make Dunland, Dagorhir, and the local groups a regular in the monthly Kaleidoscope. Apparently the General Manager asked my mother in law if I would be interested in writing a monthly column centered around Dagorhir and its many aspects. Hopefully if this prospect does bear ruit for us and I am offered the chance to bring Dagorhir to the community, we will see a flush of members within the arae and across the state.
